How Ilia’s Concealer Stands Up Against Under-Eye Circles

With a new baby in the house, I need something to cover up the under-eye circles that come with my little bundle of sleep deprivation. Ilia makes high-quality nontoxic products. So, I decided to test out the Ilia Vivid Concealer ASAP. Keep reading for my full review:

Why I Decided to Try It

I’m a big fan of Ilia’s lipstick, which packs color but feels like a lib balm. The brand claims this concealer also has hydrating powers, thanks to aloe and coconut oil.

First Impression

With Ilia you get a high-end packaging without the toxic ingredients often found in luxury beauty products. So there’s no surprise, I liked the look and feel of the concealer.

Ease of Use

The tube keeps the product clean and easy to access. But I found that the formula separates a bit as I applied it with a makeup brush. I had to apply a few layers to get even coverage.

Effectiveness

I reach for concealer when I want to hide imperfections. So, I wish Ilia’s Vivid Concealer provided stronger coverage and pigmentation. The consistency feels a little watery. I would describe it as the tinted moisturizer of concealers. If you want a “no-makeup” daytime look, this might be for you. But if that’s the case, why not skip the concealer in the first place and just use a light-weight foundation?

If you want a “no-makeup” daytime look, this might be for you.

As you can see in this photo, the concealer did reduce the appearance of the pores on my nose. (I’m wearing the concealer on the right side of the photo, and the rest of my face is bare.) The color under my eyes is a bit more even thanks to concealer, but I’m not getting a big impact. And while it didn’t dry out my typically fragile under-eye area, I didn’t notice a strong moisturizing effect either.

Ingredient Breakdown

aloe barbadensis leaf extract**, glycerin, water (aqua), sesamum indicum (sesame) seed oil*, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil*, glyceryl stearate, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, cetyl alcohol, behenyl olivate, camellia sinensis (green tea) extract**, arnica (arnica montana) leaf extract**, chondrus crispus extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract**, calendula officinalis flower extract**, sodium hyaluronate, tocopherol, allantoin, ethylhexylglycerin, phenethyl alcohol. may contain: mica, titanium dioxide (ci 77891), iron oxide (ci77491, ci77492, ci77499).

This exact product is not found in EWG’s Skin Deep database, so I entered the ingredients manually using their build your own report tool. It gets a 1, signifying a low hazard. That means this concealer is one of the safest options available. If you’re looking for light coverage and something you can feel good about, it might be for you.
